Press the cloth against the stain to absorb the grease and use a delicate detergent dissolved in water to remove any rings.

How do I care for marble surfaces ?Marble is a beautiful natural material which nature has made both practical and functional. Each marble item is unique, and requires adequate care to protect it against stains and fading etc.
Most people believe marble to be almost impenetrable. While on the contrary it is a type of calcareous stone that is highly compact and therefore much more porous than it would first appear. So that it is liable to staining on contact with food, liquids and certain cleaning products, especially if they are left on the surface for some time. Liquids or other substances that are even slightly acid, may cause the corrosion, fading or deterioration of the marble itself. So that it is advisable to use coasters to protect the marble and to care for it in the same way as wood. That is, protect it from heat or items that may scratch or stain the surface. Always use tablecloths or coasters and always clean immediately in the event of any spillage.
Marble surfaces are finished in various ways by Italian manufacturers. They are either varnished in three coats or lead polished (natural polish) or with a matt finish in the case of Travertine marble. All these finishing treatments help to protect the surface against spillage and stains.
The best way to maintain the natural features of marble surfaces are as follows:
If your table is polyester varnished:
- you need only rub it down with a damp cloth to remove any kind of stain or spillage. Then dry and make sure that you do not leave wet or damp objects on the table for any length of time.
- If the surface is slightly scratched, rub down with emery paper 1000 and then polish using a good car wax, such as SEARS “WAXCOA” or “WAXMASTER”
If your table is naturally polished:
- Treat it occasionally using a coating of the anti-stain liquid that we supply. The surface may also be polished using a chamois cloth or a wax paste or liquid for cars.
How do I care for wooden surfaces ?For the wooden parts: simply use a soft cloth, lightly damped with water and then dry using a soft, dry cloth, to avoid any scratches or abrasions.
For the lacquered parts: use a soft cloth and non-abrasive detergents; or simply a micro-fibre cloth. In the event of stubborn stains, very diluted ethyl alcohol may be used, but only for shiny lacquered surfaces. Totally avoid the use of acetone, trichloroethylene and ammonia and the use of abrasive crams or steel scouring pads which would irreparably scratch the lacquer.
For the laminated parts: use a soft cloth and a specific detergent product; or simply a micro-fibre cloth. In the event of more stubborn dirt, use a sponge with liquid detergents or glass cleaning detergent. Remove all traces of the product with a dry cloth to event any streaking or dulling.
How do I clean metallic structures ?To clean either varnished or polished metal avoid using any chemical products, abrasives, or solvents as they may scratch the surface. Chromed items should be cleaned only using specific products.
How to recognize an ALIVAR product? We recommend that you always ask the retailer from whom you buy the product for an ALIVAR warranty and authenticity certificate, while the padded products will always bear an ALIVAR identification mark under the chair cushion.
